Water Rebates
There are various government rebates available that can help reduce the cost of improving your home's water usage and water efficiency.
The kinds of things that may be covered by a rebate include:
- Installing a rainwater tank.
- Installing a tank to store grey water.
- Installing systems to reuse grey water in your home or garden.
- Dual-flush toilets.
- Water efficient shower heads.
- Using mulch, compost, or wetting agents in the garden.
- Installing flow control valves, timers, or better hoses.
Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate
The Victorian government is offering rebates of $150-$1,000 for the installation of rain water tanks.
The size of the rebate depends on the size of the tank installed, and the way the rain water is used. To be eligible your home must be connected to the reticulated water supply.

Toilet and Shower Rebates
Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate
As part of the Our Water Our Future initiative, the Victorian government offers a rebate of $50 when replacing a single-flush toilet with a dual flush toilet.
A rebate of $10-$20 is available on water efficient showerheads (up to two per home).

Melbourne Toilet Replacement Program
The Melbourne Toilet Replacement Program is a retailer program that provides a range of dual flush toilets, fully installed, at around half the recommended retail price.

Showerhead Exchange Programs
Most water retailers have a free showerhead exchange, where you can swap your existing shower rose for a new water efficient shower head.
Most council customer service desks can exchange your showerhead for you if you bring in your old one

Garden Water Rebates
Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate
The Victorian Water Smart Gardens program offers a rebate of $30 on the purchase of products to help save water in your garden.
Eligible products include mulch or compost, flow control valves, wetting/moisture agent, compost/mulch bin, moisture/rain sensor, garden tap timer, drip watering system/weep hose, trigger nozzle, or a temporary greywater diverter.

Hot Water Recirculator Rebates
Water Smart Gardens and Homes Rebate
A rebate of $150 is available when installing a hot water recirculator, which saves cold water in the hot water pipes by diverting this cold water back into the hot water system or cold water plumbing.
